One day, I went to my routine OB-GYN check-up and arrived earlier than expected.
As I sat in the waiting area flipping through my phone, I suddenly heard a voice I knew better than any other. It was Jack’s. My husband of 10 years. My blood ran cold. What is he doing here?
There he was, across the room, sitting nervously and speaking on the phone. He wasn’t with me. He wasn’t with a friend. He was alone — in a gynecologist’s office.
My heart dropped. Before I could even process what I was seeing, my phone buzzed. A text lit up the screen:
“Hey, babe. Work’s hectic. I’ll be home late. Love you ❤️”
I froze. He was lying to me in real time.
The nurse opened the door and called out a name. Jack stood up. My chest tightened. He followed her inside without looking back. I sat there shaking, a thousand questions racing through my mind. Was he sick? Was he cheating? Was there another woman?
Minutes later, I couldn’t take it anymore. I asked the receptionist if I could reschedule my appointment and hurried out to my car. I couldn’t breathe. My hands trembled as I dialed his number. He didn’t pick up.
That night, he walked through the door as if nothing had happened. Same smile. Same kiss on my forehead. But I couldn’t unsee it. I couldn’t unknow the lie he told me.
When I confronted him, his face went pale. At first, he denied everything. Then, slowly, the truth spilled out: he had been seeing another woman for months. She was pregnant. And he had been at the doctor’s appointment with her.
