For more than three days, family, friends, and local search teams desperately searched for 13-year-old Dakota “Cody” Trenkle Jr., who had vanished without a trace. Their worst fears were realized when he was finally discovered at the bottom of a ravine, severely injured but miraculously still alive.
Cody was immediately airlifted to the hospital, where doctors placed him in a medically induced coma to stabilize his condition and give his body the best chance to heal. For 11 long days, his loved ones stood by his bedside, praying for a miracle.
That miracle finally came when Cody opened his eyes. His mother, Stephanie Neely, described the moment as “the happiest day of my life,” explaining that she had been speaking to him every day, telling him how loved he was, and encouraging him to fight. “When he finally woke up and squeezed my hand, I knew my boy was still with me,” she said.
Doctors report that Cody sustained multiple injuries from the fall but is now on the road to recovery. Although he faces a long rehabilitation process, his family is grateful that he survived such a harrowing ordeal.
